How does it work?

Fat in the sub-mental department (under the chin) can be related to your weight, age, or simply genetics. Belkyra™ can be used for moderate to severe under-the-chin superficial fat. It is injected into the area with a series of small needle injections. The fat cells are damaged and the fat released, where is it absorbed and eliminated. The destroyed fat cells are gone forever and cannot come back. Most people require 3-4 treatments, spaced one month apart. Some people will require up to six treatments.

Who can be treated with Belkyra™?

Belkyra™ is effective in both men and women. It is best used for superficial subcutaneous fat. Our doctors will examine you and determine if your “double-chin” would respond well to Belkyra™. Loose skin or hanging skin along the sides of the neck does not respond well to Belkyra™ as the problem is loose skin, not excess fat. For loose skin, a neck lift might be more effective. Treatments can be done at any time of the year.

What are the side effects?

Fortunately, side effects are rare. There can be some bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites. Rare side effects would include injury to the nerve, muscle or salivary glands. That is why it is important to see a trained professional to have Belkyra™ injected.

How much does Belkyra™ cost?

Cost will depend on the amount of medication that is used for the treatment. This is related to the size of the area to treat and how many injections are required.
